Research Area

Membranes play a critical role in bio- and environmental technologies. We conduct both fundamental and practical researches on the downstream processes for bioproducts and on the water treatment based on membrane technology.

1) Development of downstream processes

  • Sterile filtration / Virus filtration / Ultrafiltration-Diafiltration Processes

  • Valuable resource recovery and separations                  (e.g. bioplastic and marine biomaterials)

  • Biotherapeutics Formulation

  • Continuous Bioprocessing

2) Innovative Membranes

  • Nano-material based membranes

  • Surface modification

  • Fouling-resistance membranes

  • Biomimetic membranes

3) Biofouling control in membrane process

  • Biofouling phenomenon

  • Inhibition of microorganism attachment / biofilm formation

4) Slurry filtration

  • Lithium ion battery slurry / CMP slurry for semiconductor

  • Mechanism for agglomerates breakthrough

  • Optimization slurry filtration process

Our group is also interested in the use of membrane to further biological and environmental researches such as drug delivery, biosensor and appropriate technology.
